To honor her quilt-making mother, in 2001 Donna Sue Groves organized a group of Adams County residents to create a driving tour featuring quilt designs displayed on barns. Donna Sue’s vision inspired a national movement that now stretches across 33 Ohio counties and more than 40 states. Celebrating Appalachian heritage, the rural landscape, and a traditional craft, Quilt Barns have become landmarks across Ohio. Drive through Adams County on Routes 247 and 52 with host Sandra Sleight-Brennan to explore the history of barns and quilting. Along the way, you’ll learn the remarkable story of how a small community art project turned into a national Clothesline of Quilts.
Travel Note: Use caution when slowing or stopping near a Quilt Barn. Most Quilt Barns are on private property and should be viewed from the public road.
