America's First Ladies

The First Ladies National Historic Site offers a unique and impressive look at the lives of America’s First Ladies.

The First Ladies National Historic Site offers a unique and impressive look at the lives of America’s First Ladies. The Ida Saxton McKinley Home is a fully restored Victorian house, originally built in 1841, that highlights both the everyday lives and Victorian grandeur of the William and Ida McKinley’s family life. Victorian-era photographs and costumes are also on display, and tours guided by docents are available by appointment. The nearby Education and Research Center houses a replica of First Lady Abigail Fillmore’s book collection from her time in the White House, as well as an upstairs section with more information and research materials. Established by law under President Bill Clinton’s administration, and managed by the National Park Service, the National First Ladies Historic Site site is unmatched in the nation as a destination for First Lady history and research.
