Hocking Valley Scenic Railway
Hocking Valley Scenic Railway provides scenic train rides through Southeast Ohio with historical interpretation of an area once sustained by railroads.
Hocking Valley Scenic Railway provides scenic train rides through Southeast Ohio with historical interpretation of a region once sustained by railroads. It was established in 1972 and operates on the tracks of the old Hocking Valley Railway, which was active from 1865 through 1930.
Inside the visitor’s center, you’ll find Hocking Valley Railway artifacts including boarding passes, maps and pictures.
Operating in the summer and fall, a train ride is the perfect way to learn this history of the Hocking Valley. Visitors can opt for two train routes. The first travels along the Hocking River to Haydenville, one of the last company towns in Ohio. The other train travels east to Logan, deeper in to the Hocking Hills. Voice-over narration provides historical interpretation of the sights along the way. In addition, volunteers aboard the train are happy to share their knowledge of the area and its history. Train cars are open-air and ensure your view of the Hocking Hills is unobstructed.
Notes for Travelers
Be sure to ask the volunteers about anything you might see on the ride. They’d love to give you more information. Consider attending their seasonal events. The Hocking Valley Scenic Railway offers special train rides for most holidays during their months of operation, including a mock train robbery!
