Dedicated in April 1988, a little more than two years after the Challenger Space Shuttle accident, this quiet park is designed as a quiet contemplative place to reflect about our place in the greater universe.

With a multitude of parks, Westerville offers many opportunities for recreation and enjoying nature. Astronaut Grove connects Westerville to our nation’s history in a different way. Honoring astronauts who lost their lives in space accidents, the brick walk, flagpole, benches, and sculpture offers visitors a place to recognize an aspect of our national heritage that is not part of everyday life. The park is divided into three areas honoring the loss of astronauts and the future of space exploration represented by the sculpture “Reaching for the Stars.” Poetry at the base of the statue and bronze stars represent astronauts who perished as part of the space program and create a sense of connection for visitors. Dedicated in April 1988, a little more than two years after the Challenger Space Shuttle accident, this quiet park is designed as a quiet contemplative place, providing opportunities to reflect about our place in the greater universe.
